September and october rain

It's been a tough two months living in the rural Finland. The clouds and rain have completely ruined the early "Orion nebula" season. I've done as much as I can, but the results have been lacking since there's nothing to photograph. The Dwarf 2 is amazing, but it can't pierce through clouds and rainfall (yet?). There was a moment of bliss though, as there was one clear night. So I went outside, filmed a video, took a few photos (300+) and here's the result. It isn't as good as I wanted due to my own photo processing skills, but the Dwarf 2 handled the short imaging session like a champion. I'm in love with the tiny telescope. There'll be videos coming out, I just need to edit and render them. Also I'll be starting TikTok-lives soon. I'll keep you all posted.Wishing you all the best from a rainy, cloudy and snowy northern Finland. May your skies be clear, lenses due-free and catch you on the next update!

The clouds, the rain, the moon, the squirrel.

It's been a typical Finnish autumn. There's nothing but rain, clouds and fog everywhere. There's nothing to be mad about beautiful fall colors on trees, all the leaves are turning red, but there's one thing that makes me absolutely devastated about the weather.Dwarf lab were kind enough to provide me with the beautiful Dwarf 2 telescope and I haven't been able to use it the way I want to use it; Imaging nebulae, imaging planets, imaging stars. Luckily Dwarf 2 is more than just a normal, typical telescope. It's a multi-purpose device, and I had a chance (okay, I'll admit, I bought nuts) to take some photos of a friendly squirrel. It's simply amazing how the telescope handled hard winds, constantly changing lighting as there were a lot of clouds, and the squirrel moving about. I couldn't have gotten a better image with my DSLR.Fast forward few days ahead and there's a cloudy night, but I can see an inkling of Moon behind the clouds. I knew that I had to take the chance and went outside telescope in hand. I found just the right spot in the middle of the road and started to focus. Within 1 minute I was already fully focused, directed at and tracking the moon. I took about 20 photos, but only one was even close to be cloudless. It's the image I've attached to the blog-post.Weathercast for the next 10 days promises me one night (12am-3am) where there should be a clear sky. Other than that it's all rain, clouds and wishful thinking of a cloudless, rainless night. Thank you Dwarf Lab for giving me the opportunity to better myself at the craft and giving me, a complete newcomer to astrophotography, a chance to learn, progress and share my tiny dream of imaging our beautiful night sky.

First images

As the fall is quickly approaching and the days of astrophotography are coming closer and closer I've found myself looking up to the skies and taking first images with the newly received Dwarf 2 telescope. As a complete newcomer to the craft I've learned the difficulties, the hardships and all the rest that comes with spending long nights alone outside with nothing but the wilderness around you.It really is true when everyone says you'll hear every crack, every small gust of wind and your mind does race a lot when you're surrounded by nothing but rumbling trees, falling leaves and complete darkness. But there is something about it that's absolutely relaxing. Maybe it's the excitement of what you've captured, maybe it's the peace of knowing that there's no one nearby, or maybe it's the fact that you've acquired a new hobby that you'll probably have for the rest of your life.I've absolutely fallen in love looking up to the skies and wondering what I might see tonight, even though it's been a solid two weeks of nothing but rain, cloudiness and the inevitable approaching weathers of winter.I'm hoping to get more done when there's clear skies than what I've already managed to capture and I'm constantly teaching myself how to post-process the images better, even editing the images that I've already taken. My next adventure revolves around me learning how to polar-align the Dwarf 2 telescope and that way to capture more data. Also I've already picked up my next target, it'll be the IC 2118, also known as Witch Head Nebula. I'm hoping to capture the true beauty of it and making a poster out of it to fit my (still quite empty) back-wall behind my computer.Thank you for taking the time to check out the website, images and I wish you nothing but the best weather to spent evenings and nights outside, gazing at the galaxies, nebulae and stars. As an added bonus: Here's an image of our very own Star, Sun. I love the tiny little sun-spots that you can see.
